In spring 2007, Scott Wiskerke offers hands-on workshops which outline the various techniques used to care for a wide variety of common garden shrubs. These include broadleaf evergreens, decidious shrubs, conifers, roses and vines.
Students will receive instruction, see demonstrations, and have the opportunity to apply their new-found skills under the direction of this instructor.

Learn how to prune, thin, shear, and train trees and shrubs.
Learn when to prune (before or after blooming).
Topics covered are: different techniques of thinning and shearing. How to prune to reduce size. How to encourage growth of shoot flower and fruits. How to improve the over all health of trees.
Don't forget to bring your questions.
By the end of this four hour hands on workshop you will know how to maintain and renovate all types of shrubs.
One of the benefits of grafting in your garden is to improve and increase your source of pollen for better pollination of your fruit trees.
This grafting workshop will cover basic methods and technique of grafting to create new fruit trees, and to add varieties to existing trees. Also covered are planting care, and pruning of new trees.
At the end of the course you will be able to take home five apple trees.
You are invited to bring shoots to the workshop from a tree you want to graft.
Root stock will be provided.

Instructor Scott Wiskerke owns and operates Roots & Shoots garden, tree care, and garden service. His lively "hands on" instruction combined with his practical approach makes him a popular speaker at garden clubs, shows, nurseries and community education at Malaspina College. Scott is a third generation Dutch gardener. He has operated and managed several orchards including Westwood and Limberlost and has pruned and grafted over thousands of trees.
